ArkPlace is a collaborative art creation platform powered by the Ark Ecosystem of blockchains. Inspired from the r/place reddit event it makes a few modifications to the basic workflow and ensures that participants are incentivised to cooperate instead of competing in order to create amazing cohesive works of art instead of defacing other people's efforts. The project will be hosted on the http://ark.place domain which I already own.

ArkPlace is intended as a way to showcase the power of the Ark blockchain and it's utility as a financial layer for DApps while providing a creative and fun activity for the community to partake in. Additionally ArkPlace explores a new architecture for creating scalable and efficient DApps that bring value to the blockchain that serves as the financial layer by providing incentive to run relays and therefore make it difficult for the chain to get Sybil attacked.

The digital artwork created as a part of ArkPlace will be released under a creative commons license however a limited edition physical print may be auctioned to the highest bidder by ArkPlace, and made trackable using the Ark blockchain to prove and maintain scarcity.

Prerequisites

Requirements

Development costs: 3500$
Marketing costs: 1500$
Operational costs: 1000$

By accepting this proposal the ACF will agree to the following terms:
a) ACF will not acknowledge or support any projects which compete with ArkPlace in any of the market niches that ArkPlace occupies.

Cost-benefit analysis

In return
b) Code produced by the ArkPlace project will be made open source in order to help future Ark related projects.
c) the ACF will be awarded 5% of the revenue generated by ArkPlace as long as the term (a) hasn't been violated and both the ArkPlace project and ACF are active and functional.

Milestones

Design

1) Buying a domain: already done
2) Implementing initial art creation webclient: in progress
3) Implementing artifact ownership tracking mechanism: to do
4) Expand and optimize operations once a self supporting infrastructure is setup: to do

Testing

No complex testing infrastructure is required since ArkPlace will never ask the users for their passphrase. Instead the users will submit their requests via transactions using the default Ark wallet invoked by magic urls.

Launch Plan

Will launch on http://ark.place when it's ready.

Support & Maintenance

Once the initial funding runs out the project will be supported via the fee collected through usage of the platform and sale of limited edition artifacts.

Additional Information

Community Feedback

I have reached out to several prominent community members to get their feedback and they agree that this will bring value to the ecosystem

Miscellaneous

I will continue with the project regardless of the acceptance or rejection of this proposal. Only difference will be that in case of rejection I won't be opening up the source code as a caution against competition or sharing the revenue with ACF.
The purpose of this proposal is to provide a mutually beneficial deal to the ACF which provides a new income stream which is direly needed.

Firstly, thanks for your proposal. Unfortunately I feel like I have no choice but to reject it in its current iteration because I disagree with your imposition that, "by accepting this proposal the ACF will agree to the following terms: a) ACF will not acknowledge or support any projects which compete with ArkPlace in any of the market niches that ArkPlace occupies."

I feel that I can't accept any proposal that will bind the hands of this board, or any future board, regarding any proposals that may be submitted in future. The ACF should judge each project on its own individual merits and this would lead to an inherent bias against any project that may be proposed in future that could be considered by some people as a competitor to this.

In addition I feel that the offer that "c) the ACF will be awarded 5% of the revenue generated by ArkPlace as long as the term (a) hasn't been violated and both the ArkPlace project and ACF are active and functional" boils down to a suggestion that you would give the ACF 5% in return for never supporting another community art project which feels unfair and actually like a bribe which I'm sure wasn't your intention but is how it sits with me.

Consequently I feel I have no choice but to reject this proposal in its current form. If you were to remove such stipulations in a future submission then I would be happy to review it again as I think your idea has merit but I don't feel that the ACF can support anything that will impose restrictions upon itself going forward.

Thank you for your proposal!

I am familiar with the work that was featured on https://www.reddit.com/r/place/

For the reasons stated above by Fun I too am in agreement that I would not be lending support to projects that would place a restriction or obligation upon any current or future board members. Secondly, by not being able to take any competing projects in the same niche, we are going against the purpose of the ACF which is to grow the ARK Ecosystem. If we are unable to accept a project that would grow the ecosystem because of a pre-existing agreement, then I feel we would be violating the purpose of the ACF.

In terms of the marketing budget, I would like to see clarification if the proposal is resubmitted.

While I can see the merits of this project, I can not approve it in its current form.

I like what you are planning to create and I hope you can resubmit a proposal without the restrictions you want to subject your plan to. With the current limitations and without the ACF being a formal organization accepting your plan could result in a liability for any current (and possibly future) board member.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll resubmit it without the restriction on ACF but I will have to release the source code under a strong copyleft license like GPLv2 to make sure ArkPlace has the best chance of survival.
